came in expected nothing, but surprisingly it was a very delightful experience.the employee were friendly and the atmosphere was refreshing. felt like a household restaurant. the seats were mostly outdoor but there were plastic tarps. even i was stuck in a rain, i could enjoy the scenery without getting wet. the poutine was tasty, too! totally worth a try!

There something different about Cantine Bernard, I can't quite put my finger on it but this is my all-time favourite cantine or casse-croute that I've found. I'll make the nearly 45 minute drive just for their poutine.Aside from being (a bit) out of the way the location is quite with place to eat outside, in doors, and even a covered and heated terrace. There's not much of anything for decor or atmosphere but there's a strong sense of tradition and pride in the service and food. The service has always been quick and with a smile.The prices are on par with other cantines and while some might find it slightly expensive the quality is definitely there.They have everything from hot dogs, bouche-trou (hamburger meat in a toasted hot dog bun with gravy, french fries, and curd cheese), onion rings, pogos, french fries, cheeseburgers and of course the poutine.I mentioned how I would make a trip of nearly 45 minutes for this poutine, and with good reason. It starts with the fries; dark, golden brown and slightly sweet, add on one of the best poutine gravys there is (not to salty but one with deep rich flavour and that's just the right consistency). And finally to top it all off some of the best curd cheese. Big pieces that don't melt down to nothing and most importantly keep their signature squeak when you bite into one.Everything is absolutely delicious and is always consistent. Definitely worth a stop in my books.

Can't beat the food here no where! After 52 years of coming here starting with my dad, bringing my children and can't wait to bring my Grandson this year. Merci Mr.Benard and now Sylvie.

Having lived in St.Madeleine, I've been going ever since i was born, incredible consistency in their recipe. The poutine is by far the best i have ever had and cannot be replicated, the secret is in the fries I'm sure ;) with a wonderful indoor space to dine as well as tables outside, its the best to dine in during summer.

absolutely stellar. probably the best poutine in the world. i drive 40 minutes twice or so a month just for this place
